Jharkhand highlights rich potential in floriculture and vegetable farming

NEW DELHI: The stall of Jharkhand reflected its richness in Floriculture and farming of medical plants in the three-days Food and Technology Expo at Pragati Maidan. The state gave an excellent overview of the work done by National Horticulture Mission.

Jharkhand is blessed with a suitable climatic conditions throughout the year that help in the growth of a variety of flowers and vegetables, as its maximum temperature hovers around 40 degree celsius in summer and minimum temperature goes down to 4 degree celcius in winter seasons. The state presented its success stories achieved in floriculture with special focus on plastic mulching and cultivation of rose, gerbera, gladiolus, carnation and marigold.

Apart from these, Jharkhand also exhibited its potential in farming of fruits and vegetables that include items like potato, pumpkin, tomato, green peas, cauliflower, brinjal, cabbage, chilli, guava, lemon, mango, banana, pomegranate, sugarcane and so on. In the area of medical plants cultivation, the state highlighted the importance of Bacopa Mounieri. This plant is used in manufacturing of ayurvedic as well as allopathic medicines.
