help with breeding mealworms

i made this video so people that breed mealworms can tell me if im doing everything right. i havnt seen babys yet and its been 3 weeks. i know it takes a while for babys but i was looking in the oats with a magnifying glass and i still dont see any type of movement but after looking for about 10 mins i decided to move somke oats and look at the bottom well i find some random brown things and i guess they are eggs, im not 100% sure. the darkling beetles have been in the new oats for about a week and a half so im about to put them in new oats. i just wanna make sure im not doing anything wrong, i dont wanna be wasting time if im messing up some how. i recently ordered 1000 meal worms to give my breeding a big boost so ill have a alot darklings. but if i understand correctly each female lays 250-350 eggs per life time. if anyone can give me a hand that would be great, thanks

  1. i started breeding them like 4 months now, i have TONS of beetles, nearly all my mealworms are gone, just the beetles now.. and i still havnt seen any little mealworms ๐Ÿ™

  2. This Is what they put in McDonald burgers! “NO JOKE” Why you think that your on The Shitter 20 minutes later!

  3. your gonna need bigger or more bins than that if you are getting 1000 and you might want to put an inch or 2 aswell cause your gonna get lots more

  4. you may need a bigger container because that is a lot of mealworms but every thing else is good do you have any babys yet

  5. In our country, if you put oats outside and make it moist and damp, you’ll get 200 mealworms in there the next day

  6. I have only 15 beetles in my setup, every 2 weeks I screen the oats so I can retrieve all the eggs and put them in a different container. So far I have been able to produce hundreds of mealworms with no problem. The only thing you got to be careful with is to change your oatmeal every month or so in order to eliminate mites. I had the problem once where I got a bit lazy and ended up with mites….then your stuck starting all over again.

  7. i recently updated them to one that has 6 tubes insted of 3 3 of them are deep and 3 of them are reg size plus i still plan on using the one in the vid for backup. i want and need to overflow

i got 4 water dragons and 3 bearded dragons and my gf have a sugar glider that likes mealworms as well.

everyone couple days i check the oats with my magnifying glass just to see whats goin on. i should get my 1000 mealworms in the mail today ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. everything looks good. If you don’t have alot of reptile that eats mealworm, i suggest u buy only 500 at least or you will be overcrowded with mealworm like me.

If you have good eyes like me, you should have no problem seeing movement in the oak or bran.

Put some empty paper roll in with the beetle. Get rid of the paper towel. Also don;t feed your beetle/mealworm alot or else the food will sole and u will have mite.

  9. i been doing mealworms for about 2 months. i got babys but not as many as i thought. beetles are able to breed about 10-12 days after becoming beetles and they life 30 days so thats 18-20 days to lay eggs before they die. they lay around 400 eggs each female. i change trays every 2 weeks and i have around 250 beetles. my eggs that hatched i only see around 100 of them so wtf i should have more.

i do have a tray that should be hatching anyday now so maybe the next one will be loaded.

  10. the beetles die after laying eggs. they dont survive very long.. how long have you been breeding mealworms? ive been doing it for 5 years and ive got millions.. never had that probelm..

  11. you replace the bedding because just like the crickets after a while the beetles will come back and eat there eggs. in wild life they wont because they got more room

  12. ok. well if it works for you. you dont really need something for them to climb on either.. they just die lol. but anyway i you dont need to take out the oats either, just leave them alone for a bit
