  1. @wowzorsfoo Hi , I would highly advise , if you want more mealworms to change the oats every month if you have over 50 to 75 beetles because there will be alot of eggs in the oat and you’d want them to hatch. So Put the old oats into a separate container or the 3rd drawer and wait for 3 week for the babies to show then throw it away… This will also help avoid mite and mold that might show in time. Note temputure makes a big difference , 76 room temp. Hope it help enjoy your project .

  2. @HALIBU77 If you breed superworms and use egg cartons , smash the egg cartons because the females pile up together in a tite group so the males can’t mate
with them. It’s best to use shreded paper from your shreder machine so they can mate in it and have protective cover. Try it and you see mating beetles all over not in a tite group.

The beetle like to chew on the pieces so I just leave it in there for a few weeks and change it after it starts looking like this video. At the time I video this box system I was in the process of cleaning it , so that’s when I decided to take this video of the system. It a good idea to tear a sheet of paper in half and place it over the oats. Wait a day and you’ll see the beetle’s all bunched up together doing it under the sheets. : )

  4. so when you get baby mealworms in the second tray can you move the third tray, the empty one, up to get more? And the beetles die after they lay the eggs, so when the mealworms are full grown do you move them into the “beetle” drawer to pupate? Sorry ive never breed mealworms before, but my hedgehog eats so many would be cheaper then buying them. And making some $ wouldnt hurt lol so i’m not sure exactly what to do. Im sooo doing your system though. getting the stuff tomorrow!

  5. That is an ingenious idea!!! I am going to apply this to my mealy farm!!!! I’ve just been motivated!!! Thank you!!! 😀

  6. Hi there sorry for the late response,
you can buy the wire screen at Home Depo , Low’s, Orchards or any Hardware store .
It should be pre cut ready to take to the counter. Hope everything works out let me know

  7. Where did you buy the screen from? The only screen I have seen are regular mosquito screen, which the openings seems smaller than on the screen you are using.

  8. One time with the crickets, yes.
The best way to avoid that problem is to keep your breeding area dry and clean.
If you feed your worms or crickets wet food make sure that the worms or crickets will finish it with in 2-3 days then remove it . Don’t over feed the with potatos because it will stick to the oats and causes mold and that’s when the problem starts
Start all over and keep the breeding area clean and free of moisture.

  9. Cool thanks for getting back i’m new to all of this i want to start selling to local bait shops somtime in the future

  10. It ‘s a standard metal window screen for bug .
The first drawer is for the egg laying beetles.
The second tray is for eggs and baby meal worms.
The third drawer can be for the full grown mealworms ready for feeding.

  11. Hi check out
    “eve2831 ”
on YOUTUBE has added the screen to the meal worm box like mine , and it works!

  12. I just found this recommendation from the Bird Watchers.
To make it easy to collect pupa make a cloth or paper covering. You can partly cover the food surface (about 2/3) with several layers of newspaper, brown sacks, paper towels, cloth etc. Leave space between the paper and edges of the container.
Worms will crawl between the newspaper layers to pupate. Removing the pupa is as simple as picking up the paper and pouring the pupa into a container.
