How to Grow Razzmatazz

images (9) Razzmatazz is a variety of a species of echinacea known as E. purpurea, or purple cornflower. This particular variety of echinacea flower is fragrant, quite hardy and grows to be anywhere from 1 to 1 1/2 feet high and 1 1/2 to 2 feet wide. The sturdy stems require no staking for growth support.
Some general tips regarding the growing and nurturing of echinacea include giving the plants plenty of exposure to sun and fairly dry, well drained soil. Aside from these basic conditions, the Razzmatazz echinacea flower is a low-maintenance plant that requires little in the way of coddling.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Instructions

Things You’ll Need:

  • Razzmatazz echinacea seeds
  • Potting soil
  • Garden rake or small rototiller
  1. Scatter your Razzmatazz echinacea seeds on the surface of freshly overturned and exposed soil.
The surface of the soil on which you scatter the seeds should be between 55 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit. In many climate regions, this moderate temperature range will most likely occur in the spring.

  2. Start thinning out the echinacea plants after 1 to 3 weeks. At this point they should have begun to germinate. Thin them out so that there is 1 1/2 to 2 feet of space between each plant.

  3. Cover the echinacea seeds with a light blanket (approximately 1/8 of an inch) of potting soil after thinning out and spacing the newly germinated growths.

  4. Weed the planting area regularly during the germination and growth period from spring to mid-fall. Unchecked weed growth will choke off and crowd out some of the echinacea growth.

  5. Harvest the plants in late fall when they are fully ripe to prevent plant rot. The Razzmatazz lends itself easily to cutting and drying for decorative purposes.

Tips & Warnings

  • When growing Razzmatazz echinacea, the pH levels of the soil should be between 6 and 8, indicating a neutral soil. The seeds will grow successfully if germinated and grown in clay-heavy soil.

  • Razzmatazz echinacea flowers will come into full bloom between the months of June and October.
