AgriLife researcher honored by prescribed burning association

FREDERICKSBURG – Dr. Charles “Butch” Taylor, superintendent of the Texas AgriLife Research Station at Sonora, was recently honored by the Edwards Plateau Prescribed Burning Association during their annual meeting in Fredericksburg.

The award was presented to Taylor by the association’s directors, recognizing his promotion of the use of prescribed burning to enhance agricultural production and wildlife habitat. Taylor was the founder of the Edwards Plateau Prescribed Burn Association in October 1997, the first of its kind at the time.

The association currently has 500 members in 15 counties and is run by ranchers for ranchers, Taylor said. The association’s main goal is to promote the safe and environmentally responsible use of fire as a means to control noxious invading plant species on native range.
