Wheat meeting planned for Aug. 12 in Deaf Smith County

DAWN — Important wheat issues will be discussed during a producer meeting conducted by Texas AgriLife Extension Service on Aug. 12 at the Dawn Community Center in Dawn.

This is a multi-county event organized by AgrLife Extension agents from Oldham, Deaf Smith, Potter and Randall counties, and will offer three general continuing education units for pesticide applicators.

Registration begins at 9:30 a.m., with the program running from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lunch will be provided courtesy of the Texas Wheat Producers Board, represented by Kodi Bessent.


The agenda will focus on the current wheat market, diseases, breeding and insect problems, followed by a question-and-answer session. Speakers and their topics will be:

– Dr. Brent Bean, AgriLife Extension agronomist in Amarillo, “Wheat Varieties and Management.”

– Dr. Ron French, AgriLife Extension plant pathologist in Amarillo, “Wheat Disease Update.”

– Dr. Ed Bynum, AgriLife Extension entomologist in Amarillo, “Wheat IPM Management.”

– Dr. Jackie Rudd, Texas AgriLife Research wheat breeder in Amarillo, “Wheat Breeding Programs.”

– Dr. Steve Amosson, AgriLife Extension economist in Amarillo, “Wheat Market Updates and Stability.”
