Training an ivy pyramid

26 This is a very simple task. All you need are two or three small-leaved ivies, a 9-in (23-cm) pot or one that is slightly larger, and a 2 ft (60 cm) high frame, or six canes, and garden wire. It will take a few weeks for the shoots to cover the frame. Constant pinching out during the growing season will speed things up.

1 Plant the ivy, then unravel the stems. Next set up the frame, firmly fixing it in place. Use garden wire to create a criss-cross network

2 Gently thread and weave the long ivy shoots between the network of wires, so that they cover as much of the shape as possible. Evenly space them out.

The fully grown pyramid.
