Banzai and Bonsai.  Two different spellings for two different words and two different definitions.

What does banzai mean?  Banzai is defined as “a Japanese patriotic cry or joyous shout”

What does bonsai mean? Bonsai is defined as “a tree or shrub that has been dwarfed, as by pruning the roots and pinching, and is grown in a pot or other container and trained to produce a desired shape or effect”.

What does bonzai mean?  Bonzai with a ‘z’ is simply an alternative spelling (albeit incorrectly) of bonsai.

There too is another spelling, bonsia, which appears from time to time.

Thoroughly confused?  Bonsai and it’s various spellings  is what this site is all about.  So forget banzai with an ‘a’, and think:
