Around the House

Give your garden or yard a face- lift by ‘decorating’ it with colorful pot plants. Grow them in all kinds of containers for hanging on wall, standing on steps, and framing and highlighting special features around the house. You can even use them to create a roof garden. 3

EXTRA DIMENSIONS

Add a vital extra dimension to a small area near the house by packing it with layer of pot plants (left), such as universal pansies (above).

THE MINIMALIST LOOK

LEFT: Spare, attractive architecture needs a judicious use of pots. Because the pots themselves are a feature, make sure the most attractive – like this olive pot are eye catchingly placed at the front.

THE VERSAILLES LOOK

RIGHT: these Versailles tubs planted with standard- trained formal privet, soft, trailing evergreen ivies, and summer petunias create a stately entrance.

THE COTTAGE LOOK

BELLOW LEFT: The best way to liven up the area by a front door opening onto the street is to pile it high with pots, so the flowers eventually hide the containers. A gorgeously scented rose frames the door.
