The Best Method for Breeding Mealworms!

This is my fail-proof method that I use for breeding mealworms. This is a video response/follow-up to my older mealworm video. This is the best method that has worked for me, and this will give you the GREATEST yield of mealworms. My method is that I seperate the different metamorphosizing stages. This way, no mealworm eggs or baby mealworms will get eaten. I started out with 50 mealworms bought at a local pet store, and now I have close to 500 mealworms, and beetles. This is why this is the BEST way to breed mealworms. Please Subscribe!

  1. @hahaurgd yeah they’re pretty happy in there. Go for it! Mealworms are great feeders for almost any insectivorous animal! cheers, demasoni521

  2. lol it seems like ur mealworms had a lot of food in there….they must be happy for their whole life 🙂
great vid..now i am gonna start my own ….

  3. @stupidasaduck you’re awesome for watching and choosing this video! Cheers man, helping people is what i’m here for.

Ok thanks for the info. BTW I found new baby mealworms!! They were probably hiding in my substrate for about a couple of days. So I posted a video so that you can check it out. Oh and if you can…can you answer the question that I asked in my video? I’ll attach the video in my next post

  5. @thatfishbreeder if you mean real shoeBOXES, then no, because mealworms can chew through cardboard. If you mean the sterilite shoebox containers, then those are fine. Anything plastic is fine, if you notice in my old mealworm video i mentioned old salad containers (The plastic boxes at the grocery stores that hold salad), plastic tubs, really, finding a container shouldn’t be too difficult. they’re very versatile animals

  6. Oh btw can I use those shoebox containers? They are a little small and they’re not made out of plastic

I still have some oats in my container…should I let them finish it all of or should I take them out now? Also, do I just run the net through the substrate till I get all of the mealworms and beetles? BTW thanks for responding to all of my replies. It must be really annoying. 😛

  8. @thatfishbreeder not unless you have a huge net…my net is small enough to let the fecal matter dust go through but not large mealworms and beetles. and you don’t need to sift your beetle substrate, because there are eggs/baby mealworms in there.

  9. @demasoni521
Oh that’s an interesting idea…using a fish net. But I’m wondering…aren’t the holes big enough for the mealies and beetles to go through?

  10. @thatfishbreeder I clean mines every month. Um, we’re both fish enthusiasts right? You must have a fish net! I use a fish net to do it and i leave the feces for about a week for the little ones to grow bigger. Then i throw the powdery dust away.

  11. Another question I have is, how and when do you clean out your farm?? I have no sifter to clean it out. What should I do??

  12. @thatfishbreeder I started off with a small tub you buy at petco or whatever, it was labelled 100 mealworms but alot of them died along the way so I estimate around 50 surviving beetles. That means, theoretically speaking, 25 pairs of beetles. The offspring of the original batch are in the hundreds. For my mealworms now including beetles and pupae, i estimate around 300-400 or so.

  13. @thatfishbreeder ok haha kiddo let me explain this: The newly hatched baby mealworms stay there. Once the grow bigger, eat more, etc. add more oats. The adult mealworm section by now should all be beetles or pupae. If not, then just keep the adult mealworms there, don’t mix them. You can mix them together if you want, but like i said, be organized to get the best yield. This will ensure a perfect cycle! Thanks for watching!

  14. Oh…now I think I know why I have no new mealworms! It’s because I didn’t seperate them!! Thanks for this vid! BTW for the 3 drawer system…when I seperate the beetles to a new container….waht do I do with the newly hatched baby mealworms? Do I move all of them to my adult mealworm section or….please reply!
