The current status of importing, breeding and consuming Sturgeon in Vietnam: Ministry of Aquaculture (former name) has showed their developing efforts in producing cold water fish through the investment of different importing sturgeon breeding technology projects. Many projects have been approved and implemented:  Importing sturgeon’s incubation and germination technology (October 2002) with its adjustment in 2006. “Importing artificial reproduction technology of Chinese sturgeons” ( May 2007).
By implementing these projects and coordinating actively while taking full use of international organizations, scientific institutions and enterprises in our country have successfully applied the incubation process and nursery, initially grasp the commercial farming techniques, drafting the process of hatching, larval rearing and breeding of commercial Chinese sturgeon (Acipenser sinensis), Siberian sturgeon (Acipenser baeri) products . We use these fishes for artificial reproduction research and then gradually build up the staff scientists and experts.
Vietnam sturgeon corporation have imported four types of Acipenser sinensis family including Siberian sturgeon called Acipenser baeri, Russian sturgeon called A.gueldenstaedtii, Beluga sturgeon called Huso huso and Sterlett for experimentally raised in Vietnam.  We carried out a ministerial-level study on “Research on application technology of commercial breeding sturgeon (Acipencer baeri)” to find out  additional objects raising in cold water fish farming production in our country in 2006.  The main result made by scientists after 3-year research is: The technical procedures of raising Acipencer baeri has been drafted; food recipes for Acipenser sinensis at 02 growing phases (breeding and commercial goods) and a school of fish for the next research on artificial reproduction has also been built up; Acipenser sinensis, Salmon and food for Acipenser sinensis in breeding stages and commercial goods status has been produced.
The main results collected by scientists after three years implementing the study are : Draft up the technical process of commercial sturgeon farming.  Formulating  feeding for sturgeon at two growing stages (seed and commercial), manufacturing food served during the two stages. Providing fish for artificial reproduction on going research. Producing sturgeon and salmon commercial products.
These results are huge steps in our country’s aquaculture, when first imported cold water fish, appropriate with the development orientation of many countries and regions. Also, the fish imported into Vietnam promises great potential in improving economic social conditions, poverty reduction in mountainous remote areas in Vietnam.
