Despite welcome rains last week and weekend, the percentage of Iowa’s corn crop rated good to excellent dropped from 57 percent for the week ending Aug. 28 to 55 percent for the week ending Sunday, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Nationally, the percentage of good to excellent corn dropped from 56 percent a week ago to 52 percent last week.
The USDA said “much of Iowa received welcome precipitation over the past week. Unfortunately, some ares of far northern Iowa reported that rain came with high winds and hail.”
For the first time in six weeks, Iowa received above-average rainfall, with a statewide total of 1.58 inches versus an average of .89 inch.
