Wheat harvest wrapping up

images (10) Winter wheat harvest is wrapping up with the aid of the weather and is 92 percent complete, according to the Crop Weather report released Monday by the Montana Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service.

Progress is ahead of last year’s 82 percent harvested as this time. The five year average is 91 percent harvested at this time of year.

Spring wheat harvest has progressed with 32 percent harvested, just above last year’s 29 percent, but below the five-year average of 63 percent complete at this time of year.

Montana’s barley crop is 35 percent harvested, compared with 48 percent at this time last year and a five-year average of 66 percent.

Farmers rate spring wheat as 52 percent good to excellent compared with 76 percent at this time last year.

The barley crop is rated as 53 percent good to excellent, compared with 79 percent at this time last year.
