A group of farmers across the country will starting lifting crops of Rudolph next month for sale in Asda supermarkets in the coming weeks.

Mr Heading, who farms near Chatteris, was growing the variety for the third year. And this season, he will be lifting 10 hectares or 25 acres as production of the variety is increased.

David Ralph, of Agrimarc, has also been involved in advising growers about the variety.

Maria Paice, marketing manager for Fenmarc, said that the variety had a proven track record and was “tried and tested.” And her father, Richard Solari, of Shifnal, Shropshire, was another grower.

Agrimarc and Fenmarc Produce held the sixth annual potato and vegetables trials at Hope Farm, Southery, as growers and customers met to view a range of varieties.

It brought together the supply chain from seed supply through to retailers.

Fenmarc, which is one of the country’s largest fresh produce growers and packers, has three sites in Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire. It handles potatoes, root vegetables and prepared vegetables for multiple retailers and wholesale markets.

A sister company, Agrimarc provides growers with quality assurance and technical services and enables vertical integration through the supply chain from varietal development through seed supply to the production of commercial potato and vegetable crops.
