Competition for raw milk between liquid milk processors and cheese manufacturers has brought an October price increase of 1.85ppl from Robert Wiseman Dairies.
It will mean a standard litre price, based on milkprices.com parameters, of 28.425ppl.
The company said the new price reflected the continuing strength in the commodity markets, producers’ increased costs, and its’ need to remain competitive in terms of securing supplies to meet customer demand this winter – against a backdrop of higher prices being offered by cheese manufacturers.
The new price does incorporate adjustments to milk composition and quality payments although Wiseman claimed the majority of producers would see little or no impact as a result of these adjustments, given the quality they produce at the moment.
They would, in effect, see the full benefits of the incresase.
The company notified producers back in April that it wanted to make adjustments in order to bring the milk contract more closely into line with the requirements of the business.
A spokesman said the increase would, based on current milkprices.com tables, put its standard litre roughly 2ppl ahead of the two other major processors and First Milk and around 1.4ppl ahead of Milk Link.
