VGP – This year’s rice yield is expected to reach over 41 million tons, up 2.6% against 2010, said Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).
This was said to be attributed to expanded application of scientific and technological advances, high-yield varieties as well as “supportive” weather conditions.
Winter-spring rice productivity is estimated at 63.47 quintal per hectare, or 1.2 quintal higher than last year’s figure recorded at the same season. Meanwhile, the summer-autumn crop is forecast to yield some 12.180 million tons.
Việt Nam planned to ship seven million tons of rice this year and the target seems attainable, MARD said.
