HYDERABAD: The state may get an additional grain storage capacity of 25 lakh tonnes this year as in the last procurement season, the state had faced a shortage in grain storage capacity.
The Chief Minister of the state, Mr N Kiran Kumar Reddy, has also urged the Centre to grant financial assistance to develop 1,000 godowns in various parts of the state. These godowns would be at the administration of IKPs (Indira Kranthi Patham women self-help groups).
Union Minister for Rural Development, Mr Jairam Ramesh, has given his consideration into the proposal and said that the infrastructure expansion in the leftwing dominated areas of the country is very important. He may also earmark Rs 10 crore from his MPLADS () funds for building storage capacity.
He has shown interest to spend from his MPLADS in Adilabad and Khammam districts. These two districts are among the list of 60 districts which were identified by the Centre as leftwing extremist (LWE) affected districts.
