well its done so the male and female will get used to each other and the male can go build the nest, after the male gets his nest about 4×4 inches you release the female from the vase and when they are done breeding, you remove her,

well you will need something for the male to build a nest on! like a plant or leaf! something one top of the water so he can build a nest !!

yes he needs something he can build his nest around, and I just happened to have that foam. I have a friend who has a pet store that we sell or trade with.
