Rice at subsidised price during Ramadan

images (2) Gulf News Abu Dhabi: The Khalifa Humanitarian Foundation (KHF) is subsidising the price of rice across the UAE for Ramadan.
“The project is as per directives from President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan to help relieve the increasing cost of living and support Emirati families,” Mohammad Al Khoury, director general of KHF, told Gulf News.
“KHF is providing 325,000 rice bags for half the market price,” he added.
The foundation is selling the 40kg rice bag for Dh120 compared to Dh260 in the market. The subsidy programme will be carried out in cooperation with the municipalities across the country.
The subsidised rice is available at all branches of the Etihad Cooperative Society in Dubai and Ajman, at the Sharjah Cooperative Society, the Umm Al Quwain municipality, Ras Al Khaimah Cooperative Society and Fujairah Municipality.
Some 95,492 bags of rice have been provided by the Foundation in Dubai, 93,852 in Sharjah, 22,937 in Ajman, 64,082 in Ras Al Khaimah, 10,131 in Umm Al Quwain and 38,506 in Fujairah.
This project takes into consideration the number of family members and their needs. Each family will be eligible for two 40kg bags of rice. The rice is of the same quality as that found in the market and has been checked by Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority.
This is the second year the Foundation is implementing the Ramadan food programme at the local level.
