Try this, fill both trays bottom and top with oat meal about 3 inches. then put about 3 inches of shreaded paper on top of the oats. This will give the beetles cover and privacy to breed. It really works great and beetles cannot bunch up together like they do when you use egg cartons, ever notice that?????
The females do this to keep the males off of them. You’ll notice that when you use shreaded paper there will be more beetles mating visually and have the space to hide

  2. @HALIBU77 Hey I couldnt find the litter pan, but the 56Qt or 63qt tubs ( i dont remember) from sterilite also fit under the 28qt tubs, same thing screen the bottom of the 28 and ventilate the tubs works great. Also I suck with a blade so I just used a sodiering iron to remove the bottom of the 28qt by melting it off. It doesnt snap that way. Cool idea man thanks a ton.

  3. Simply Amazing! We made one at my cousins house in January 2010, now he has over 10,000 Mealworms, and 2 of these Systems. This will Ensure the maximum amount of mealworms will be made when you buy them to Breed. Im Surprised someone doesnt put something like this on the market. TRY THIS OUT!!!

  4. Hey man this looks great, i’m most done building mine but im using it for meal worms is it alright

  5. @tubemeup2 Hi, buddy sorry it took sooooo long.
The 28 qt bin size is 23″x161/4″x 6″
The kitty liter bin is 201/2″x15″x6″

Those are the sizes of the top part and the bottom part is about 1 to 2 inches smaller . Can experiment and try your own container’s the key is to use the wire screen.

  6. @jimifyable Hi , that’s great. I hate to say yes so I’ll just say if they do just cut extra screen pcs to repair the holes . In time if you’d like to change over to wire it’s up to you. At least you got the main project complete. Great job hope you have tons of worms ! See ya Rudy

  7. hey i made one of your (beetle boxes) but i didnt use metal or alluminum flyscreen/insectscreen i used normal black nylon stuff will the beetles or baby superworms chew through this as my worms havent pupated yet and i havent been able to test it out

  8. Thank you for this great idea! I’ve been dying to breed worms but it seemed so tedious! I’m definitely going to make one of these this year

  9. @tjd1985 And I thought of this because my one lizard tank with soil/real plants has some superworms in there. Apparently one burrowed under and became a beetle, then started laying eggs. Also happens in tarantula tanks, but for some reason the tarantulas I have don’t touch the beetle.

  10. @HALIBU77 What if we just put some potting soil or whatever that they can dig burrows under the oats so they can pupate/turn into beetles themselves and crawl out? I’d gladly produce less superworms if I can automate it and just keep dropping carrots and stuff lol. I’m lazy like that.
