Haryana urges Centre to change bajra specifications

tải xuống (3) Chandigarh, Jul 21: Haryana Food and Supplies Minister Mahender Partap Singh has urged the Central government to change the specifications for the procurement of Bajra at the minimum support price, as the state procuring agencies would unable to procure it during Kharif 2011 as per existing specifications.

He also urged the Central government to immediately lift the foodgrains stored in open space in the state.
Speaking in the conference of State Food and Supplies Ministers organised at New Delhi last evening, he said that the farmers of the state would not be able to get remunerative prices for Bajra in the absence of procurement by government agencies.
He also urged the Central government to dispose off the Bajra which was procured during Kharif 2009 and 2010 and was yet to be disposed off. While 30,000 tonnes of Bajra was procured in 2009, 74000 tonnes was procured in 2010, he said, adding that this Bajra should got distributed in Haryana under public distribution system.
The Minister said that Food Corporation of India had charged about Rs 80 crore as storage gain from the state procuring agencies, which has adversely affected the financial condition of the agencies.
He urged the Central government to refund this amount to the state procuring agencies. He also urged the Centre to settle the remaining issues of the incidentals that were given to the state government by the Central government on the storage of foodgrains.
