  1. Im intrested in starting up my own colony..im intrested in tasting them as good for ME..and if i like them i will continue to eat them..but also i have 2 rats and a few mice that love mealworms they go crazy for it..!

so if i dont like them im sure my rodents will pick up my share ;P

thanks for your help..you really helped me out alot!

  2. Cool thanks i just got four pupae!I have about 16 mealworms in my pet colony it keeps me from bugging the 100 i use as full time feeders[that i will use i ment as i’ll only use them in the summer/spring]Thanks again make more mealworm updates 🙂

  3. Np, good choice. It can be really time consuming to pick them out once your colony starts picking up in size trust me! 😛

  4. Yes I do. I find if I don’t, regardless of how much lettuce I offer there will always be some bettles or mealworms that will eat the deffenceless pupae for moisture. Hope this helps 🙂

  5. Ya! It deffinately works but at the same time hundreds will still go through also the fact that the oat bran flakes might be to big to fit through the mesh of the strainer… Other then that it is somewhat efficient 🙂

  6. as for sorting out the beetles and larger worms from your bran, I’ve heard that using a strainer or colander works good. the bran and eggs and baby meal worms fall through leaving only the beetles, larger meal worms and any leftover food that may have been lost in the mix… what do you think?

  7. Hi there,

I know what you mean, yet over a few years I’ve learn’t to be careful and handle anything alive gently in the tongs grip. Althought these larvae are “food” I still do respect thier lives until that moment. I like your little cardboard shovel idea…:)

  8. Tweezers are not a good sign, It is like you being picked up by a hydraulic log grappel, Use a piece of thin cardboard like from a cereal box and cut it shaped like a little shovel about three inches long and about half an inch wide and bend the vey end up and scoop them up.

  9. Hi there, as you may have noticed I have over 100 subscribers as do you. I hope you take no effece to this but I am unable to subscribe to all of my viewers channels. If all of them asked me to sub them for the fact they subed me I’d be screwed lol. I appreciate you subscribing to my channel and I may subscribe to yours soon. Sincerely, Dayyan

  10. Thanks for your concern… In some aspects your right. Mealworm exo-skeletons are high in chiton which is close to/not digestable. this can result to an impaction if to many are consumed by your pet, especially if they are young animals. The fact that mealworms chew thier way through reptiles is along the lines of a myth. Once again if the animal is young and didn’t chew properly maybe just maybe but this really never occures with mealworms. superworms have been known to do this to baby leopards

  11. I think mealworms aren’t very good food for you pets because they are low in nutritients and they can eat themself out of your frog stomach.
Superworms I heard, are much better, and crickets are the best.

  12. Well to be honist with you I’d highly recommend not using them… I have sooo much better success with whole weat bran. Trust me I’ve used oats and they dont work nearly as well. Use the weat bran. 🙂
