The Biotechnology Center of Ho Chi Minh City (HCMBiotech) was established on July 2nd, 2004 by the Decision no. 161/2004/QÄ-UB of the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City. The main headquarter of the Center has been built in a 23-ha campus located on National Way 1A, 12 kilometers northwestwards from the Municipal center. HCMBiotech is set up based on a new pattern for Vietnam with various functions including research, technology transfer, training and production applied in agricultural, medical and environmental issues. New genetic technologies are applied to industrial production, especially the vaccine industry and biomedicine (the recombinant protein with pharmaceutical activities). The Center construction is supposed to start its first stage by the end of 2005 and finish within three years, and the second stage is to be completed by 2010. In the early stage, the major biotechnological research building is sufficient at least for 200 staffs. Simultaneously, advanced productive recombinant protein factories and a filling and packaging plant will be also constructed.
