Klinefelter receives distinguished service award from ag editors association

COLLEGE STATION – Dr. Danny Klinefelter, a Texas AgriLife Extension Service economist and professor in the department of agricultural economics at Texas A&M University, has received the 2010 Distinguished Service Award from the American Agricultural Editors Association.

Klinefelter received the award for years of work with producers in agricultural finance and management development.

He is the director of The Executive Program for Agricultural Producers and serves as the executive secretary for the Association of Agricultural Production Executives. In 2009, Top Producer listed him as one of the 25 people in the world to most influence American agriculture in the next 25 years.

Klinefelter also received the Southern Agricultural Economics Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005 and was named Honor Professor in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M in 2006.

“Rarely has one individual touched the lives of so many in the agricultural industry in such an unassuming but impactful way,” wrote Greg Vincent, editor of AgWeb, in his letter of nomimation.

“With this in mind I am honored to nominate (Klinefelter) for the AAEA Distinguished Service Award. It has been a privilege to work with Danny on countless stories and initiatives. By working with him I learned several key things about the man: There are few in this industry who have a better understanding of the issues that will impact American agriculture on both a micro and macro level. He is an academic who believes that academia doesn’t have all the answers. If he is consulted about a story for which he is surely an expert, but believes there is someone more qualified to comment on the story, he will be the first one to suggest a better source.”

In supporting the nomination, Charlene Finck, managing editor for Farm Journal, added, “In my 25 years as an agricultural journalist, I have never met a servant of agriculture who is more dedicated to helping farmers improve their businesses and their lives.”

The American Agricultural Editors Association has named a Distinguished Service Award recipient each year since 1947. The award is sponsored by Archer Daniels Midland.

Klinefelter is the third faculty member from Texas A&M to receive the award. The two previous winners were Dr. Perry Adkisson and Dr. Norman Borlaug.
