Annual crop tour set for Aug. 31 at Muleshoe

MULESHOE – The Texas AgriLife Extension Service offices in Bailey and Parmer counties will conduct their annual crop tour beginning at 9 a.m. on the James Brown farm north of Muleshoe.

The free tour will conclude around noon with a catered lunch.

“The tour will be all about cotton and nothing but cotton,” said Curtis Preston, AgriLife Extension agent in Bailey County. “The tour will include three replicated cotton variety trials of very diverse genetics and a GlyTol demonstration plot.

“The GlyTol technology is a new trait for tolerance to the herbicide glyphosate,” he said. “Cotton industry representatives and AgriLife Extension personnel will be on hand to present the information and to answer producer questions.”

Three Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units, two general and one integrated pest management, will be offered.

Preston said those unfamiliar with the area should call the AgriLife Extension office in Bailey County for directions to the first tour stop. The directions are also available online; go to the AgriLife Extension website for Bailey County at: http://bailey-tx.tamu.edu and click on “cotton tour” to download a tour site map.

For more information call Preston at 806-946-7467 or Monti Vandiver, AgriLife Extension integrated pest management agent for Parmer and Bailey counties at 806-272-4583.
