History:
Founded in 1926: Hanoi Pasteur Institute
1945-1946 : Institute of microbiology
1946-1957: Hanoi Pasteur Institute
1957-1961: Institute of Microbiology
1961- Present: National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology

Function: A scientific research Institute engaged to the study of microbiology and immunology fields for purpose of carrying out preventive strategies and controlling emerging diseases to protect Vietnamese from infectious diseases.

COMPANY FOR VACCINE AND BIOLOGICAL PRODUCTION –VABIOTECH was established according to the Decision No 625/2000/QD-BYT dated 2^nd March,2000 by the Minister of Health.

COMPANY ACTIVITIES :

The company for Vaccine and Biological Production No1 was established under the Decision No. 650/2000/!D – BYT dated March 2^nd, 2000 by the Minister of Health.The functions of the Company are manufacturing and trading vaccines and biological products for human use, analyzing sample of new vaccines and biological products (including diagnostic kit and prophylaxis treatment product).

Annually, these kinds of vaccine was provided to Expanded Program on Immunization and domestic demand and export.

Promotion to enlarge in making widen-range products with international collaborations and cooperation is also being our business strategy; belongs to it, the Company plans to develop and launch many new products as: Rabies vaccine (Verocell), J.E vaccines ( Beijing 1 strain), mumps vaccine, varicella vaccine, rubella vaccine, new generation of cholera vaccine, alpha interferon, erythropoietin, Hepatitis E, Diagnostic Test kit for HAV, HBV, HCV, HEV, JE… The new project for new vaccine production as GMP standard is accordingly planning to build at other new facility of the Company.

We pride ourselves on satisfying all the national demands for vaccines, with an annual production capacity as follows:
Annual production capabilities:
+ Hepatitis B vaccine: over 4,000,000 doses.
+ Japanese Encephalitis vaccine: over 4,000,000 doses.
+ Oral Cholera vaccine: 1,500,000 doses.
+ Hepatitis A vaccine: 300,000 doses.
+ Rabies vaccine: 150,000 doses.
Currently we are planning our new production facility and infrastructure. Our expected production capabilities are as follows:
+ Hepatitis B vaccine: 20,000,000 doses.
+ Japanese Encephalitis vaccine: 10,000,000 doses.
+ Oral Cholera vaccine: 3,000,000 doses.
+ Hepatitis A vaccine: 300,000 doses.
+ Rabies vaccine: 300,000 doses.
