4. Main function and task:

4.1. Research activities: NIAH are involved in 3 kinds of research as follows:

            – Basic oriented research: Comprised the studies on the biochemistry, molecular genetic, embryo, semen, metabolism etc.

            – Applied research: Comprised the studies on the animal selection, breeding, feeding diets, feeding and management system etc.

            – Transferred research: Comprised the studies on the ways and scale of livestock production, structure of livestock in the sustainable agricultural system and transferring livestock technology into production.

5. Main achievements:

·      Successfully study on crossbreeding of different livestock species: Pig, dairy cattle, Super Meat and egg type  duck and scavenging chicken.

·      Conservation of animal genetic resource (conserved 19 precious and rare breeds which are in danger).

·      Achievements on better use of local feed resources for sustainable Animal Production system.

·       Management skills, feeding and health care for livestock of the farmers in all over the country are improved through the technology transfer program.

·      Many papers and publications about science and technology on animal production were published in the country and abroad.

6. Development orientation in the 10 coming years:

·      To continue the implementation of national KHCN.08.05; KHCN.08.13 programs.

·      To carry out 5 national breeding projects which has been approved (pig, dairy cattle, scavenging chicken, duck and commercial chicken).

·      To revise the content of the focused projects, Ministry level projects to fit to the priority subjects.

·     To speed up the implementing progress of International projects that have been signed as well as forming and setting up new projects

·      To arrange, organize more reasonable the scientific staffs, creating favorable condition for them to use their capacities serving the research work at the Institute.

·      Accessing to marketing demand in the country and overseas base on that to set up the objectives of the research activities.

·     To strengthen the activities of livestock production technology transfer to farmers, to link closely research with production to achieve good results, creating condition for workers to improve their living standards.
