The Sohafarm was established in April 1979 based on the 33/QĐ-UBT Decision of Hau Giang Province People’s Committee with natural square of 3,450 hectares (it was formerly divided 50% from Quyet Thang farm). It was added the rest 50% of Quyet Thang farm to increase its total square up to 6,981.5 hectares by the Decision 47/Q-UBT in 1984. Then Sohafarm handed over some hectares for Thoi Lai Commune and Vietnam Voice Station II based on Decision of Can Tho Province People’s Committee, thus its real square now is 6,924.78 hectares.
In 1992, based on the Decision 1106/QD-UBT of the Can Tho Province People’s Committee, Sohafarm was officially allowed to import-export directly and established as an state-owned enterprise. In May 20, 1996, Sohafarm was supplemented general importing-exporting function and transformed from cultivating model to general cultivating-trading- importing-exporting.
Being located in sunken area, it was not only affected by alum but also uncultivated during the war. Without any water system, Sohafarm got starting from nothing but approximately 100% of the banking loan and itself funds. Because it was not affected the system of budget subsidies, Sohafarm itself has affirmed the position and developed stably. It finished improving soil, building water resource constructions with the dike system, canals, combining with fully done traffic system, mechanizing in most of agricultural productions, transforming 100% of one crop of floating rice to 2 crops with over 60,000 tons annually. 5,000 hectares cultivating rice equally with 90% of total have been combining with growing aquatic products. The agricultural production model called Field-Milpa-Forest-Garden-Lake-Case has been applied for many years to make this zone become rich and the life of over 2,300 household members is stable and happy. Carrying out the structure transforming, the Farm built infrastructure, invested machines for industrialization in processing agricultural products in suburbs such as: 10 processing food factories, 4 canned product processing factories, 1 seafood processing factory, 1 wood-tech factory… and was successful in importing-exporting trade with most of the products those are made from agricultural, forestry, aquatic material trusted by international purchasers.
Employee: 252 staffs with over 2,800 household members, 15,000 people. Sohafarm becomes one of three High Technology Agricultural Production Zones in Vietnam.
ACHIEVEMENTS:
– Awarded Labor Hero by Central Government first time in 1985, second one in 1999.
– HACCP quality system in management certificated since 2002 and ISO 9001:2000 approved since 2003.
– Sohafarm was suggested by leaders of Can Tho province and selected by the Vietnamese Prime Minister to build a High Technology Agricultural Production Zone on purpose of applying advanced technologies in agricultural production to accomplish the high economic result and to ensure quality, price, environment; and to ensure a stable development, then promoting the results of high-tech appliance in agricultural production to the whole area at the same time.

– Husbandry: beef breed, dairy cow, pig seed, implanting; producing fresh milk, beef, pig meat.
– Aquatic products: breed for fish, shrimp, trionychid turtle; cultivating fishes, shrimps.
