  1. @davemonkey314 Check, and double check. That was the quickest way so far to get rid of those pesky zoes. My tank is all nice and quiet now. So much for my firtst effort. I’ll be stopping at a pet store in a few months to get some salt water aquarium salt.

  2. @FrostyVideoAlaska I tried fresh sea water from the North sea in England and it didn’t work, the zoes died almost instantly. Try one and sea what happens. You can use Rock salt from your kitchen apparently but it doesn’t contain the extra minerals they put in the Marine tank salt

  3. @davemonkey314 A fish store told me to go down to my nearby ocean harbor and just drag a bucket of water out. I did so , however my locaction in far up Prince William Sound and the water isn’t very salty. I brought home a bucket of the water, ran it through a coffee filter to knock out most of the silt. It didn’t taste salty at all so I’m adding 1/2 teaspoon per litre. I’ll try changing it out in stages?

  5. @FrostyVideoAlaska I think about 30g per litre of marine fish salt. You really need a Specific gravity (SG) meter, I bought a beer brewing float one for £2 from a supermarket which bobs in the water. It needs to be about 24SG (which is about 35ppm) and I think the same as a marine fish tank. I’ve heard you have 4 days to transfer them to salt.

  6. Sorry to be a bother…….
How much salt per gallon? I have some zoes just hatched and need to transfer them to saltwater.

    Thanks so much.

  7. @xDreyyx If you’re worried do small water changes more often and try to use a none poluting food like phytoplancton which remains alive.

  8. @xDreyyx the adult shrimps can tolerate salt water but the eggs do not hatch in salt for some reason so you have to keep the female in the fresh water until the zoes hatch and then catch them with a pipette. obviously it is better if your tank is cycled so set it up as soon as possible, but mine wasn’t because of lack of time and as there is no filter there is not really a lot for the bacteria to grow on anyway.

  9. Quick questions, did you had the pregnant female in a fresh water tank? When placed into a salt tank does it have to be cycled? or can it be freshly made salt water and just place them in a container with a bubbler and do changes every ten days like advised?
