INTRODUCTION
integration, the agricultural growth in Vietnam has remarkably gained impressive achievements, presenting through high rates of growth, resulting in a substantial reduction of poverty incidence, transforming Vietnam from a food-deficit country to one of the leading exporters of rice and other agricultural products, providing food security for the nation; of which, the seed sector has provided a significant contribution to the success by efficiently applying new varieties.
Along the light with the adoption of Intellectual Property Law, Seed Ordinance, equitisation of state-owned enterprises, implementation of a National Seed Programme launched since the year 2000 that is extended until 2010, and the admission of Vietnam into UPOV, etc…, the establishment of the Vietnam Seed Trade Association is a new step of development through contribution to the strengthen of the seed sector in future, promotion of integration, co-operation and further development of competitiveness in the seed market both regionally and internationally.
With strong support by Ministry of Agricuture and Rural Development, on March 29, 2007 Ministry of Interior
Affairs adopted a decision granting permission on the establishment of a Vietnam Seed Trade Association (VSTA).
VSTA is a voluntary association, comprises those who are operating seed-related activities, provides contribution of knowledge and efforts to represent for legitimate interests and aspiration of its members as well as of the final seed users, farmers. Main objectives of VSTA is to bring together, make solidarity and ceaselesstly give its mind in protecting legal interests for members, thus mobilize active participation by members into a mission of building a seed sector of modernization and industrialization.
